I have two favorite residential architectural styles which are
also the most popular of my custom home designs. First, the 'ultra modern' style like the designs of
Richard Meier and Le Corbusier. I like to be as daring as
I can persuade my client to be. This helps insure a home design
that will be refreshing and will never appear dated. Sometimes
referred to as 'deconstructivist style', this modern and
unique approach to residential design is sometimes made up of bold and
abstract forms.
Second,
I like the Mediterranean
style. Many designers prefer the term Hispanic or
Mediterranean, while others simply say that the style is Spanish
Eclectic. In other parts of California, these homes are usually
described as Spanish Colonial Revival. There are a lot of Mediterranean styles around, but
it will always be beautiful if it's done right. Some designers design Spanish-style houses, but
they use metal roofs, modern grilles, or colors that don't
go well with the style. It's a shame because it's
supposed to be a classic style. Although the
style is difficult to name, it's fairly easy to recognize.
Spanish-inspired houses usually have the following features---red roof
tiles, little overhanging eaves, stucco siding, arches especially above
doors and windows, tiled courtyards and porch entries.
